Insurance Help for Flood-Damaged Cars
Understanding your coverage, claim process, and next steps
Understanding Your Coverage
The type of insurance you hold determines whether flood damage is covered.
Comprehensive Insurance
Typically covers flood and storm damage, including:
- Flood and storm damage to your vehicle
- Engine damage caused by water ingestion
- Electrical system failures from water exposure
- Interior damage including upholstery and carpeting
- Towing and recovery costs (varies by policy)
Third-Party Insurance
Typically does NOT cover flood damage to your own vehicle:
- Flood damage to your own vehicle
- Engine or electrical repairs from water exposure
- Interior water damage or mould remediation
- Towing costs for your own vehicle
- Any damage to your car from natural events
Coverage varies by insurer and policy wording. Always review your specific policy or contact us for a free policy review.
The Claim Process
Follow these steps to file your flood damage insurance claim.
Document the Damage
Take clear photos and videos of the water level, your vehicle's position, and all visible damage. Do not move the car before documenting the scene.
Contact Your Insurer Immediately
Call your insurance company's claims hotline as soon as possible. Most policies require notification within 48 hours of the incident.
File a Police Report If Required
Many insurers require a police report or RTA incident number. File online or visit your nearest police station.
Get a Professional Inspection
Have a qualified technician assess the full extent of the damage. This independent report strengthens your claim and ensures nothing is missed.
Submit Required Documents
Gather your policy, ID, vehicle registration, police report, photos, and inspection report. Submit everything together to avoid delays.
Wait for Claim Assessment
The insurer will send their own assessor to evaluate the damage. This may take a few days to a couple of weeks depending on claim volume.
Accept or Negotiate the Outcome
Review the settlement offer carefully. If it seems low, you have the right to negotiate or dispute the valuation with supporting evidence.
Documents You Will Need
Prepare these documents before filing your claim to avoid delays.
- Insurance policy copy
- Emirates ID or driving licence
- Vehicle registration (Mulkiya)
- Police report (if applicable)
- Photos and videos of damage
- Towing receipts

Insurance FAQs
Comprehensive insurance policies in the UAE typically cover flood and storm damage, including natural disasters. Third-party policies generally do not. Check your policy wording or contact us and we will review it for you at no charge.
You will need your insurance policy, Emirates ID, vehicle registration (Mulkiya), a police report or RTA incident number, photos of the damage and water level, and a professional inspection report. We can help you gather and organise all of these.
Comprehensive insurance covers damage to your own vehicle from floods, storms, and other natural events. Third-party insurance only covers damage you cause to other people or their property and does not include flood damage to your own car.
